April 2012 LATEST NEWS: HOSEPIPE BANS in the south-east of England and East Anglia are effective from 5th April 2012. The drought could spread north and west to the unless continual rains arrive soon. The Met Office says this is unlikely.

MOST WATER COMPANIES INTENDED TO ALLOW REGISTERED DISABLED TO CONTINUE USING A HOSE, WHILE SOME ALSO INTENDED TO ALLOW OVER-65s THE SAME EXEMPTION. THIS HAS NOW CHANGED.

SOME SUPPLIERS WILL ALLOW TRICKLE-IRRIGATION OF FLOWER BEDS, TOPPING UP FISH PONDS & ORNAMENTAL WATER FEATURES OR WATERING NEW SMALL LAWNS ETC. Check with your supplier


Latest News (February 2012). First official winter Drought Areas since December 2003

Parts of East Anglia and now the South East are officially in drought status with parts of Midlands continuing to experience drought conditions.

Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, parts of Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire, and west Norfolk are still in drought.

Hampshire, West Sussex, East Sussex, Kent, Surrey, London, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and the east of Gloucestershire are now in drought.

Shropshire and Nottinghamshire are still affected by dry weather.

Anglian region groundwater levels remain exceptionally low. Soils in these areas are still not wet enough for widespread recharge to take place.
